Safety Considerations with Facility Closure

Closure of a production facility may involve equipment and processes that can pose significant safety hazards such as:

  • Explosions and Fires
  • High Pressure Lines and Equipment
  • Struck-By/Caught-In/Caught-Between
  • Vehicle Collisions
  • Electrical and Other Hazardous Energy
  • Falls
  • Confined Space

The recognition and control of hazards is critical. The operator or any  contractors working on a facility closure should have a safety program that:

  • Includes a process, such as theĀ Job Safety Analysis Process, to identify workplace hazards and solutions
  • Develops and implements safe practices
  • Supplies personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Includes hazard communications and a plan for safety training
