Drilling a well requires the orchestration of many workers, complex pieces of equipment, and well monitoring systems. Actually, over the life of the drilling and completion process, it is estimated that more than 430 different people, across nearly 150 occupations may have worked for the well.

To the uninitiated, a drill site may seem chaotic and confusing, but through this course, you’ll come to understand the processes that go on at a drilling site and technologies that make drilling possible.

In this section, we’ll take a look at a lot of the machinery and equipment you will likely encounter at the drill site. Explore this interactive to ensure you are familiar with terminology used at a drill site and on the drilling floor. In the next topic section, we’ll go through the drilling process itself.
